The Ithaca Aviation Museum project proposal is for a satellite exhibition space which features airplanes that were designed and tested by Glenn Curtiss. The proposal evolved by way of a deep artistic and analytic investigation of the surrounding topography in conjunction with the aerodynamic flying machines intended to be housed within the structure. These elements generated a design that consists of two sloping surfaces that become an extension of the existing ground plane. The project is sited in a vibrant and charming natural valley where the Cayuga Lake inlet meets the City of Ithaca. The design facilitates a dynamic public interaction with the architecture by way of new and existing foot paths; creating a harmonious extension to the collectively used green space and waterfront.
